Defence Family Support

Defence Family Support

St Augustine's College has a strong connection with many Defence families (both as part of the parent community and the wider community). The College has a dedicated Defence School Mentor and space for families of Defence, where support is provided - from lunch time drop ins to check in on student wellbeing, to parent meet ups to network and connect. In addition, we proudly hold our annual ANZAC Day Commemoration Service with guest speakers and our student leaders attend Dawn Service each year.

The Defence School Mentor program aims to:

  • Assist students from ADF families to integrate into the College community and help with transition.
  • Advocate for ADF students when required.
  • Provide emotional support to ADF students when required.
  • Act as a link between parents of ADF students and the school.
  • Encourage resilience and implement coping strategies to help
  • overcome additional challenges that students from ADF families can often face.
  • Work with other student support service staff.
  • Promote awareness of the special needs of ADF families.
  • Linking students to appropriate support persons as needed.
  • Co-ordinating appropriate welcome and farewell gatherings for
  • students and parents of Australian Defence Force families.
